Book Review Policy

Here at West of Mars’ Rocks ‘n Reads, we’re continuing Susan’s traditions of doing things her own way.

That means she does what she wants. You’ll notice an emphasis on rock books, because that’s what Susan writes and that’s her favorite genre of book. But you’ll also notice other stuff, as well.

If you’re an author, a publicist, or anyone with a book should know I prefer Rock and Roll fiction. Need some examples? I don’t discriminate based on publisher — as a self-pubbed author, that’d be pretty hypocritical of me, don’t you think?

I can read both print and digital books. I prefer epub format as I read on my iPod, although Smashwords coupons make my day. I do NOT have the Kindle app, nor do I intend to get it. Don’t tell me to.

If I say no to your book, don’t take it personally. I’m a busy woman. But do take a minute and check out Win a Book. It’s quite a nice resource for all authors. My team and I would love to have you play along over there.

If I say yes, I reserve the right to not post the review. I reserve the right to be downers about your book. Not about you, though. That’s just rude. And I reserve the right to not reply to your inquiry about whether or not I’ll take on your book. I also reserve the right to delete a mass mailing as spam. I take the time to personally vet the reviewers I reach out to. Do the same.

I also reserve the right to do what I’d like with your printed book once I’ve read it. I may trade it away via my favorite online trading sites. I may pass it around among friends (not if it’s bad, however). I may donate it to a local library or other organization seeking books for a used book sale. But I will NOT sell it online ’cause that’s more hassle than it’s worth.

If you’ve given me a digital copy, the choices are more limited: keep or delete. I won’t share digital copies without your direct permission.

Things like interviews, guest blog posts, and giveaways are all at my discretion and will be decided on AFTER I’ve read and reviewed your book. Same for a time frame of when your review will be posted. Sometimes, I’m slow. Sometimes, I’m not.
